Photographed by Noah Sahady and Maly Mann
One of the things that drew us to California-based model Maly Mann was her subdued, almost spartan, aesthetic. With her freckled, honey-caramel skin and otherworldly features, she also happens to be the best muse for her own work as an artist, be it in the medium of photography or painting.
A self-confessed lover of DAMDAM (the mist and balm are favorites), it was a natural progression for Maly and ourselves to create something together for posterity’s sake, a little souvenir crafted with heart via film photography and made indelible within our digital abode. The results are nothing short of magical – small, solitary moments captured and made special by her uncontrived, effortless presence.
Without further ado, meet Maly in our latest story.
Tell us about yourself.
I was born and raised in Long Beach, Callifornia and currently live here as well. I grew up all of my life thinking that I was going to be a teacher but left university and pursued life as a freelance artist, something I was always afraid of doing. You can now find me modeling in L.A. and internationally, painting in my studio, cooking in my little home, or taking photographs of my favorable moments.
“Art happens when you let go so with that said, I believe my photo work is a compilation of moments that come to me and when it comes, I capture them.”
Is there an aesthetic you are trying to express through your photography work?
Truly, it is hard for me to consider my work photography. I feel that the more I label what I do, the harder it is for me to do them, if that makes sense. When I have a camera in my hand, the first thought I have is, time to let go of any assumptions I have made and fall into the flow. Art happens when you let go so with that said, I believe my photo work is a compilation of moments that come to me and when it comes, I capture them.
Do you have a morning ritual?
I wish I had one! Every morning is always so different but lately, I wake up next to my partner and my pup, make some coffee, and listen to a podcast.
Do you have a beauty ritual? What do you look for in your products? What are your favorites?
My beauty ritual is fairly simple! Drink a lot of water and use natural products. I take a bath, spritz on some DAMDAM Paradisi Mist, then some Peet Rivko moisturizer, and then start on the basics like brows and mascara, then voilá, I’m done!

What inspires your work?
I’m inspired by nature and all things outdoors. I am also inspired by the way people move and speak. Being able to see the way people react physically during a conversation is pretty interesting.
What do you do on days when you need to unwind and unplug?
Oh man, I have not done that in a long time so I have kind of forgotten how to unplug. I am always working! My ideal way of relaxing would be a nice walk in the mountains with my partner and my pup then end the day with a glass of wine.
What does sustainability mean to you?
Sustainability to me is being able to use a product or source without harming our natural environment. Sustainability means love.
