Maeva Marshall for DAZED Digital.

If you have spotted a freckled beauty recently on a runway or fashion campaign, chances are that it’s Paris-based model Maeva Marshall. From the runways of Jacquemus, Kenzo, and Yohji Yamamoto, campaigns for Ellery and Adidas, to magazines like Dazed and Vogue Paris, she’s making waves for a singular look made memorable with her mask of freckles. What makes her freckles even more remarkable is that they’re testament to her resilience – they’re marks left from treatments for a stroke she suffered, a condition she’s candid about in hopes that her story will make those with a similar ailment feel confident and less alone.

Since Maeva’s skin is hyper-sensitive, she keeps her ritual minimal, opting for products formulated in a clean way containing no artificial ingredients or fragrance. It was kismet then that she chanced upon DAMDAM from a mutual friend of ours in Tokyo and since then, has become a friend and our strong supporter. We caught up with the model on our recent trip to the city of lights and had a laugh with the vibrant star-in-the-making.

Tell us about yourself.

I was born in Miami, Florida and raised in Paris by a beautiful French mom. I’m in Paris mostly, but I go to New York often for work. I just got signed six months ago with Heroes [agency] as a model but I don’t like being seen just as a model. I used to work in a club in Paris and used to do a lot of different jobs since my teens to get my own money and be independent.

“Things I use everyday are coconut oil, Japanese products, and products without any perfume… [like] DAMDAM oil because it gets my skin glowy all day.”

Your freckles are beautiful! Can you share with us the 3 things that you do everyday to take care of your skin?

As I’m working a lot, my skin needs a lot of attention. What I do every night before I sleep is to wash my face carefully and gently with water and Sakura soap from Evidence, and in the morning I do the same thing and then use my DAMDAM balancing oil serum and add some sun protection SPF 50 because of my skin condition.

The biggest thing I realized – no bad talk on these, don’t get me wrong – but they sell you so many different products with different effects like “anti-aging,” “collagen,” etc. They sell it for thousands of dollars when actually using simple things like coconut oil work even better.

What are the beauty products you use everyday?

The things I use everyday are coconut oil, Japanese products, and products without any perfume.

I don’t wear make up everyday but if I have to pick three essentials, it will be : DAMDAM oil because it gets my skin glowy all day, concealer, and brow pencil.

“My morning ritual is my coffee with milk!”

Do you have a morning ritual?

My morning ritual is my coffee with milk!

What do you find the most inspiring on social media?

What’s inspires me the most on social media are the people whose accounts are not Photoshopped and accounts that don’t pay attention if the pictures are perfectly positioned and so on.

What do you do on days when you need to unwind and unplug?

When I need to unwind, I go see my grandmother or pick up my little brother from his school and go to the park – something real and down to earth. When I need to unplug, I just turn my phone off – even if I can’t really do it with my job – and feel waaaay much better the day after!

Down-to-earth yet otherworldly beauty!
