Kristine Lopez is a Manila-born, Los Angeles-based photographer whose Instagram feed @kristine.lo will make you want to pack your bags for an extended holiday on the beaches of Tulum. Her free-spirited, soul-nourishing sensibility is immediately evident on her social media grid – swimsuit flatlays lay side by side ritual tea ceremonies and favorite self-care treats.
Apart from our shared Philippine heritage, what drew me to Kristine was her singular commitment to living a mindful life – this commitment dictates everything from her daily morning ritual to her choice of career as a photographer and consultant for wellness brands. We chat with the dusky beauty as she articulates what drives her passion for living a well-intentioned life.
Hi, Kristine! Tell us about yourself.
I’m a Los Angeles-based photographer and creative consultant working with fashion, lifestyle and wellness brands. I was born in Manila and have been living in Los Angeles for over 20 years.
I currently live in the Westside neighborhood of Santa Monica. I’m so grateful to be able to live with diverse neighborhoods, landscapes, people, food, cultures and ideas. Los Angeles has a little bit of everything and I believe it’s one of the best places to thrive as a creative because of the abundance of opportunities.
I started my creative career as a founder and creator of a contemporary fashion brand producing locally handmade bohemian clothing and jewelry. My journey to becoming a photographer and creative consultant was very organic and rooted in my intention to create meaningful and purposeful content, digital and real-life experiences. In the past year, I have been working with wellness brands, holistic practitioners and spiritual creatives. To be able to merge my personal healing journey and integrate wellness and spirituality into my work has been so nourishing.

Do you have a daily morning ritual or self-care practice?
My daily morning ritual includes a sacred tea and meditation, journaling and reading Buddhist teachings. Tea is my heart and soul medicine. It’s a source of providing clarity and strengthening my intuition. This ritual also creates a foundation for me to be conscious and in gratitude with the universe.
Do you have a beauty ritual? Can you talk us through it?
My beauty rituals include daily, weekly and monthly self-care practices. My daily beauty routine for skin involves cleansing, toning, and then moisturizing using face oils. I also do a monthly holistic facial that is supportive of my internal and external beauty. To me, “beauty” is feeling completely nourished and exuding an internal glow outward. Self-care has been a vehicle for me to attain this beauty.
Other daily beauty or self-care practices include tongue scraping in the morning, taking supplements or herbs and mindful consumption of foods. I honor the source of the ingredients I consume and try not to look at my phone or work while I eat. I’ve also learned that one simple and beautiful act of self-care is when I can make time for prepping & cooking my meals. I’m not perfect and there are days when I’m not mindful or conscious in these ways but I’ve learned to be compassionate with the process.
Other on-going weekly or monthly beauty rituals include baths during the Full or New Moon, massages, Korean spa days with my sister and simply being in nature. Living only a few blocks near the beach and a short drive to a hiking trail in Los Angeles is truly a blessing. Being in nature creates such a deep internal gratitude and happiness that is part of what beauty means to me.
Are there particular things you look for in your beauty products?
I’m very sensitive to strong fragrances and ingredients so I naturally gravitate to products with organic, subtle scents. I also love brands rooted in intention. I’m truly honored to be featured on DAMDAM. I completely resonate with the intention not to mention the beautiful aesthetic.

What inspires your work?
What I loved most when I was a fashion designer and creative director was dreaming up stories and creating concepts expressed through ready-to-wear products. Being naturally creative is something I’ve always seen as a gift. When I started incorporating intention with my creative purpose, I received endlessly amounts of inspiration to create work. Inspiration comes in many ways from meditation, journaling, traveling and being completely open to receiving elevated experiences from the Universe.
How do you keep the balance between real life and your virtual life?
My work for clients is to create content for the digital space. So balancing the time I spend in “real life” to virtual is hard to say since working in the digital space drives my work. Like everyone, I can get consumed by the Internet and social media. We receive an abundance of information and projections of how we should live our lives and what advertisers say we should buy to live our best lives. But I’ve discovered that my job is to not add to the noise and clutter in the digital space. I believe in the old adage of “quality versus quantity.” For example, on Instagram, it’s not about the number of followers, posts, or having a high engagement. I post when I feel inspired and have something meaningful to share. With this “strategy,” each post has always “converted” and led to clients booking to shoot or work with me. Or it can be as simple as someone completely resonating with my personal share and impacting a part of their day. My intention is that my content converts into meaningful ‘real life’ experiences.
Aligning with our authentic digital and real life intentions on social media is very important to me that I actually co-created a workshop on this called Conscious Content Creation. My friend Kristen Flores, creator of Muse Bath and brand director of Bon MuseMedia, and I guide individuals to identify their brand intention and how to authentically share their unique lens in the digital space through conscious content.

Where are your favorite travel destinations?
Being born in the Philippines always gave me the desire to travel to tropical climates. My boyfriend and I have our birthdays in June and so we visit Tulum every year. I also love major metropolitan cities and anywhere that can nourish me visually and expand spiritually. My favorite places to date are Bali, Paris, Tokyo, and the American Southwest!
