Part of being a conscious consumer is arming oneself with the education and knowledge to make informed choices when purchasing a product or supporting a brand. It’s through this journey that I connected with like-minded founders and a strong community of independent businesses offering alternative options which happily stray far away from unsustainable, industrial practices.

One such brand is the L.A.-based Muse Bath Apothecary, run by its founder Kristen Flores. The California native makes her own bath and candle concoctions infused with scents that balance both skin and soul. Is it any wonder that we at DAMDAM felt aligned with her vision? Here, a chat with Kristen.

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Kristen Marie Flores and I am the founder and artist of Muse Bath Apothecary. I am from and currently live in Long Beach, California. I love to work with scent and create artisan beauty and bathing rituals from my apothecary studio that inspire self-care, sacred living, and nourishing well-being.

A bather’s dream: Muse Bath candle and the signature Muse Bath is a blend of organic coconut milk salts, eucalyptus leaves, and lavender flowers .

“I love nourishing my whole body with daily oil self-massage and bath ritual, weekly exfoliation and eating a vibrant and nutrient rich whole foods diet for a happy digestive system! My favorite beauty elixir and tea infusion is nettle leaf, red raspberry leaf, goji berry, and oat straw.”

What is the genesis of Muse Bath Apothecary?

Muse Bath Apothecary is a botanical studio curating small batch bathing goods and beauty wellness products for daily rituals. Muse Bath Apothecary was created from my passion with sharing organic beauty rituals and inspiring self-care practices in the wellness community.

Do you have a daily beauty ritual? Can you talk us through it?

Yes, I love my daily beauty rituals. I am very inspired by nature and draw from an array of seasonal self-care based rituals to help balance my daily living practices. First and foremost, my Sadhana practice with dance, Kundalini yoga, and tea meditation is a foundation for my inner and outer well-being. Meditation with breath work calms my nervous system and helps to restore the organs and tissues beneath my skin to allow for a full radiant glow on the surface. I love nourishing my whole body with daily oil self-massage and bath ritual, weekly exfoliation and eating a vibrant and nutrient-rich whole foods diet for a happy digestive system! My favorite beauty elixir and tea infusion is nettle leaf, red raspberry leaf, goji berry, and oat straw.

The morning ritual includes Sadhana practice, Kundalini yoga, and tea meditation.

“Baths are medicine. For stress and anxiety, I recommend creating a soothing bath to fully restore your mind and body with relaxing essential oils such as lavender and vetiver, fresh flowers, blue calcite or rose quartz crystals and dead sea salt. For manifesting creativity, I recommend a blend of rose and frankincense essential oil, rose petals, clear quartz crystal and Himalayan pink salt to awaken the muses and muse your soul.”

Can you recommend some bath rituals for when you’re stressed, when you’re anxious, when you need to unwind, when you need to manifest creativity?

Of course, I recommend Muse Bath! 😉 I love tuning into bathing as a healing self-care practice. Baths are medicine. For stress and anxiety, I recommend creating a soothing bath to fully restore your mind and body with relaxing essential oils such as lavender and vetiver, fresh flowers, blue calcite or rose quartz crystals and dead sea salt. For manifesting creativity, I recommend a luxurious blend of rose and frankincense essential oil, rose petals, clear quartz crystal and Himalayan pink salt to awaken the muses and muse your soul.

What are your favorite scents?

My favorite floral scent is the Hawaiian tuberose which I use in a few of my favorite Muse Bath products. Currently, I am in love with whole essential orange blossom oil and tobacco flower essences.

What inspires your work?

Art, poetry, plants, astrology and ancient beauty rituals. I love exploring my relationship between the natural world and cosmic cycles found in nature. I love studying ancient medicine to inspire a modern lifestyle.

Travel, nature, and ancient beauty rituals play muse to Katrina.
