We love reaching out to fellow founders of wellness brands. Byron Bay-based naturopath Kate Dalton created Mayde Tea when she was seeking out natural solutions to address digestive problems. Her tea blends are organic and made in small batches, a soothing remedy to common ailments related to the digestive and nervous systems like anxiety and insomnia. Here, our chat with the wild-crafted tea founder.

Tell us about yourself.

Hello! I’m Kate Dalton and I live in Byron Bay. I’m a naturopath and nutritionist and own a cute little company called Mayde Tea. I run the business full time and see clients on the side- which keeps me nice and busy!

How did Mayde Tea come about and how did you bring it to reality?

Mayde Tea was created 4 years ago when I was 23, somewhere amongst a double university degree and a full-time café job. Feels like a bit of a whirlwind but I’m so happy with how far it’s come! Since graduating last year I’ve been able to put all of my energy into Mayde Tea. It’s been so fun and I’ve loved the challenge. I had no idea it would end up as an actual business!

I was creating herbal blends for myself for digestive problems and anxiety while I was learning about herbal medicine at uni. I was so excited with how much it helped me that I really wanted to share this with everyone! So I started the business with a whole heap of knowledge of the medicinal properties of herbs, but with zero knowledge on running a business – so that was an interesting learning curve and I’m of course still learning!

We love slow living – what would make for a good slow morning in your books?

A walk and swim in the ocean. It’s my favourite way to start the day!

Please recommend a tea blend for when you’re feeling anxious, when you need energy, and when you need to manifest creativity.

1- Serenity; 2- Energise; 3- Cleanse.

What’s your beauty ritual?

I don’t have an excessive skincare routine although I do use a good quality cleanser and moisturiser. I had really bad digestion in my late teens, and since then everything has improved including my skin! I look after my body as a whole which means I don’t have to do anything too in depth with skin care.

Fragrant blends and plant-powered drinks.

“I look at the ingredients and if there’s something in there that I don’t know, I won’t use it!”

Are there things you look for in particular in your beauty products and brands you support?

Organic is very important to me! I also look at the ingredients and if there’s something in there that I don’t know, I won’t use it!

What inspires your work?

Nature and its power to heal the body.

What do you do on days when you need to unwind and unplug?

Spend it at the beach mostly! the sun and ocean are the most relaxing things for me!

Where are your favorite travel destinations?

Japan and New Zealand!
