We’re lovers of the slow life and one of our daily indulgences is a good piece of linen to sink ourselves in after a long day of work. Byron Bay-based Deiji Studios fulfills this longing with founder Juliette Harkness at its helm, creating snooze-worthy pieces that make the bed a safe haven for soul and sleep. Her linens are made from the natural fibres of the flax plant and stone washed for that perfectly lived-in look. Deiji Studios linens are stronger than cotton, highly breathable, and environmentally friendly, as it uses less water and chemicals to cultivate. Plus, there’s her loungewear – robes, sleepwear, and slippers in tones of earth, rust, and mustard – surely designed to make getting out of bed an impossible task. Here, our chat with the lovely Juliette.

Hi, Juliette! Tell us about yourself.

I grew up by the ocean on the Northern beaches of Sydney, so the ocean is a huge part of my life and my families. I currently live in Byron Bay with my partner and our two little girls…We have another on the way!

How did the idea for Deiji Studios come about and how did you bring it to reality?

Deiji Studios came about just over a year ago. I had seen some beautiful linen sheets handed down from my great aunts to my mother. Seeing something that could last such a long time and just gets better with age, I fell in love with the fabric.

Creating a new way of living at home beautifully, effortlessly and ethically, we then created pieces that could be worn for sleep, but also for around the home and out.

How do you create a sanctuary in your own home for a well-rested sleep?

I do love fresh clean sheets, I feel like I always get the best sleep when I have washed and line dried my linen…also a good cup of herbal tea and a book before bed does the trick.

What would make for a good slow morning in your books?

Haha, I really wish I had slow mornings in my home, but I love a good cup of coffee and some music!

What are your skincare musts?

I love a good cleanser and a super-rich moisturiser, also plenty of water.

Linen kimonos make the perfect nighttime accoutrement.
